WEBSITE HOSTING

WordPress hosting vs web hosting: choose by application

Compare WordPress hosting and web hosting by software, editing workflow, site count and maintenance. Match your application to the right hosting plan.

WordPress is an application your hosting needs to support

Web hosting provides an environment for a website. WordPress is a content management application that runs in a compatible environment. A WordPress hosting plan is organised around that application; a general Web plan may suit a different PHP website. The label alone does not explain everything included in either service.

Start with the project you actually have. If your website uses WordPress themes and plugins, compare the WordPress range. If you have an existing PHP application, check its runtime, database and file-access requirements against the Web range. A new hosting label will not convert one application into the other.

Choose the editing and development workflow

For a business website or publication, WordPress can provide a familiar place to edit pages and posts. Your theme and plugins determine much of the resulting workflow. Make a list of the editing, forms, languages and integration tasks you need before choosing that application.

A custom PHP application may have its own dashboard, deployment process and dependencies. Moving it to WordPress could require rebuilding features and migrating data. Compare that work with keeping the current application in a suitable Web environment rather than treating a hosting change as an application migration.

Check compatibility beyond the application name

WordPress needs a compatible PHP and database environment with HTTPS support. Themes, plugins and custom code can add requirements of their own. For a Web project, gather the equivalent requirements from the application documentation. Check versions, PHP extensions, scheduled jobs and outbound integrations that the project depends on.

VPSLibre offers PHP 8.3 and 8.4 preferences for website hosting. Choose according to your tested application compatibility, then verify the actual runtime and settings after delivery. An order preference does not certify every plugin, provide an immediate live PHP switch or establish a database version that the offer has not stated.

Verify the PHP environment your plugins need

Separate site allowance from WordPress multisite

Count each website you intend to operate and compare that count with the plan. Independent WordPress installations can have separate databases, plugin choices and maintenance schedules. A WordPress multisite network uses a different administration structure and needs plugins and domain settings suitable for that structure.

The multisite preference does not enlarge the plan’s website allowance or make WooCommerce stores share orders and stock. Decide which administration model your team can support, and document how each site or network will be recovered. Include media, databases and working space in the storage estimate.

Understand multisite and independent-site administration

Agree who maintains the website

Hosting the application and maintaining its content, themes and plugins are different tasks. Name the person responsible for updates, compatibility tests, access permissions and recovery. A WordPress-labelled offer or a selectable update preference does not, by itself, establish a fully managed website contract.

Compare the available backup options with the recovery procedure your project needs. Record where your independent copies are kept and how you will test them. If you need software outside the Web environment, investigate the VPS family and the additional server administration it requires.

Turn the comparison into a requirements sheet

Choose the family that supports the application and workflow you intend to keep. Then select a plan using the actual site allowance, storage and available setup choices. Review the period total and selected extras in the configurator; paying for hosting in crypto is available across the families.

  • Name the application and its current version, or the application you plan to install.
  • List the theme, plugins, database and runtime requirements that must be checked.
  • Count websites and estimate storage from existing data where possible.
  • Assign application maintenance and document a tested recovery path.
  • Compare the matching Web or WordPress plans before requesting the configuration.
