WooCommerce hosting requirements: prepare a working store

Check WooCommerce software, extensions, storage and checkout workflows before choosing hosting. Plan backups and preserve live orders during changes.

Inventory the store before choosing its environment

A WooCommerce store combines WordPress, WooCommerce, a theme and the extensions used for selling. Payment gateways, shipping tools, subscriptions and stock integrations can introduce their own requirements. Record the versions and configuration of the whole store rather than checking the WooCommerce plugin in isolation.

For a live shop, include the tasks that happen after a customer pays: order updates, notifications, stock changes and connections to other systems. These tasks belong in your hosting requirements and test plan. A product page that loads correctly does not prove the whole transaction workflow works.

Verify runtime, database and application settings

Check the server recommendations for the WooCommerce release you will run, alongside WordPress and extension requirements. Verify PHP and database versions, HTTPS, PHP memory settings and any additional extensions or network access needed by integrations. The memory limit for a PHP request is a different setting from the RAM listed in a hosting plan.

The WordPress family offers a WooCommerce software choice and PHP 8.3 or 8.4 preferences. Those selections describe the requested setup. After access is delivered, inspect WooCommerce system status and verify the actual environment; do not assume an unstated database version, extension or email service is included.

Estimate storage and workload from the store

Include product images, downloads, themes, extensions, logs and the database in your storage estimate. A store with a small product catalogue can still accumulate customer, order and integration data. Use current disk and database usage when moving an existing shop, then allow working space for the maintenance tasks you plan.

Consider imports, scheduled actions, search, reporting and concurrent checkout requests when evaluating the environment. Website count or disk capacity does not establish a supported number of products, visitors or orders. For an existing store, gather measurements and error evidence before attributing a problem to a lack of hosting resources.

Test the complete transaction path safely

Prepare a separate test environment using your own tooling or an agreed delivery arrangement. Keep it away from public customers, and prevent test activity from sending live notifications, changing external stock or initiating real payments. Use the payment provider’s documented sandbox or test mode and confirm its boundaries before testing.

Paying for VPSLibre hosting in crypto does not install a crypto gateway for your customers. Your shop’s gateway configuration, credentials and webhook handling remain separate. Verify those integrations for the store itself and do not copy production secrets into an exposed test site.

  • Check product variants, prices and required customer fields.
  • Test cart changes, checkout, shipping and the store’s tax configuration.
  • Verify successful and failed payment paths with the gateway’s safe test procedure.
  • Check order status, stock changes, account pages and notification behavior.
  • Exercise scheduled actions and the extension-specific workflows the shop uses.

Protect orders created while a store is changing

Back up both store files and database, and verify that the recovery copy can be restored. When migrating or changing an active store, decide how new orders, customers and stock changes will be preserved. A copy taken yesterday cannot contain today’s transactions.

Use an agreed change window and a clear plan for stopping, capturing or transferring writes. Keep the previous environment and rollback procedure available while checking the destination. Restoring an old database over a selling store can erase later activity; investigate and reconcile live data before treating a full restore as the solution.

Preserve live orders when moving a store

Choose the plan after the requirements are clear

Compare the WordPress plans with the site count and storage the shop needs, choose WooCommerce and the tested PHP preference, then review optional backups and additional storage in the quote. Check the delivered environment and repeat the transaction tests before directing customers to it.

Keep the requirements sheet with the store’s maintenance notes. It should identify the application versions, required integrations, test results, recovery method and people responsible. Revisit it when changing a major extension or the checkout workflow rather than assuming a past compatibility check covers every future change.
